Rock N Roll Dallas Half Marathon
Mar 20 – Mar 21 all-day
Rock N Roll Dallas Half Marathon @ Dallas | Texas | United States

Set for its 6th annual running in 2015, the Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas Half Marathon and Two-Person Relay saw nearly 10,000 runners cross the finish line last year, along a course that features many of the Big D’s best-known places to see and visit, from Dealey Plaza and the Sixth Floor Museum to the legendary Cotton Bowl football stadium.

The race begins in downtown Dallas along Young Street, in front of the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center and just blocks away from the Dallas City Hall. From there, the course winds its way through the city along an upside-down-U-shaped route, following a gradual uphill climb in the first half of the race that turns into an equally gradual downhill descent in the race’s second half.

Runners get to see some of Dallas’s most historic spots in the race’s first couple of miles, as the course runs along Houston Street and Elm Street through Dealey Plaza, where President John F. Kennedy was fatally shot on that sunny day back in November 1963, and the Sixth Floor book depository where Lee Harvey Oswald fired his shots, now a museum dedicated to the history of the assassination and what happened here back then.

After that, the course heads north along Riverfront Boulevard, Continental Avenue and Houston Street, passing by the Perot Museum of Nature and Science and the American Airlines Center, the arena home to both the NBA’s Dallas Mavericks and the NHL’s Dallas Stars. Then it’s north along Cedar Springs Road as the race begins a long, slow climb over the next five miles, and later onto Turtle Creek Boulevard.

Just before the half-way point of the race, runners head into Highland Park, one of the city’s wealthiest neighborhoods (and where former president George W. Bush has a home). By the time runners reach the mile 8 marker along Mockingbird Lake, the course has begun its downhill stretch, and largely keeps gradually going downhill from here to the finish line.

The finish line brings runners into the parking lot area in front of the Cotton Bowl, the longtime home of the college football bowl game named for it (though today the game has moved to Arlington).

The course time limit for Rock ‘n’ Roll Dallas is 4 hours, so the race is open to both runners and walkers.
